Nature
This book is a window out to the beauties of nature for those stuck inside, in bed, or in the city. For someone going through difficult times, medical recovery, depression, or discouragement, the Scriptures and thoughts will be especially comforting and uplifting. Every page opens up another full-color, edge to edge spread with an appropriate Bible passage and thought. This is not the usual slap-a-verse-on-a-picture. The author has taken the time and the photographic angle to turn the scene into a parable of God's love. The reader is drawn into the beauty and meaning our Creator originally placed within the view. From mountains to sunsets, from waterfalls to baby fawns you will be delighted, inspired, and encouraged with every turn of the page.

My programming and my writing usually allows me flexibility in scheduling. So today, with my wife and daughter gone to Seattle for the weekend, I took off to the hills. I went down to the area just north of Mt. Shasta and just explored. It was about 50/50 clouds and sun. There was constant cloud cover near the top of Shasta and I saw the peak only once. With all the snow on it, the mountain reflected so much light underneath the clouds that it almost seemed to glow.
I had no particular agenda with hiking destinations or with God. I just knew that I needed a break from all of my work to let God work on me. I like to do that on a regular basis. It is good to be reminded that we are God's children, rather than thinking we are mighty workers for God with all the answers. It is good to reconnect with the Father and I do that best from a childlike position. The vastness of the wilderness and the majestic mass of the mountains always helps put that perspective back into me.
Often we just barge into God's throneroom demanding answers. Sure, He is patient and understanding with our immaturity, but the habit of asking quick questions leads to expecting quick answers. It is more important to listen for God's voice then it is to voice our requests. God already knows our hearts. Do we know His? Do we know how to know His heart? "Be still, and know that I am God." (Psalm 46:10) We must learn to be still, before we learn His answer. It is good to walk with God in the garden, in the forest, or on the mountaintops just for the sake of being alone with Him. Those times teach us the language of God's voice preparing us to be better listeners when we later need His answers.
